It's been a while......and while I was away alot has happened. Covid came and disrupted our festival but WE'RE BACK!!!!!
So 2023 has begun on a high note with the festival taking place in different parts of the country. So ofcourse a return of KNDFF means there are or may not be changes in the festival.
A look at what has changed;
1. Largest number of appeals following Regional festivals in the history of KNDFF with regions bringing upto 6 plays, 3 of which are appeals..sigh!!! This will be a story we shall look at as we answer what may have caused these appeals from all regions except Northern!
2. The rules and regulations actually allow recognition of Trainers if they're appointed in writing by the institutions they train.
3. Choral Verse Cast increased to 18 but no exits in the middle of performance by personas or characters that are not reciting at any particular time in the performance.
4. Modern Dance cast increased to 9.
5. Stand-Up Comedy is still the worst performing genre in the festival.though it should be one of the best with a budding comedy industry in Kenya. Perhaps KNDFF should relook at the approach of this genre to enable it grow?
Not sure if I've left out any other changes. As for the festival this year, Shimo La Tewa Secondary, Shanzu TTC and Sheikh Khalifa will.play host to Secondary, Primary, TTI/TTCs and Universities respectively with effect from 20th till 28th April.
All the best to all teams and as per the Theme, let's enjoy DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION THROUGH THEATER AND FILM.
